About making hotel reservations online for a hotel in Canada, would I be able to use these paying methods:?

Could I pay with cash when I get there or send a money order?

Or could I call the hotel and then as I mentioned before pay with cash when I get there or send a money order?

I am planning to make reservations for a hotel in downtown Toronto.

Most hotels require a credit card not only to hold a reservation, but to check in.  Even if you are paying with cash, they want to record a credit card as security, in case the room is damaged, items are stolen, etc.  It can be very difficult to find a decent hotel that will let you stay there without a credit card.

The only possible problem is reservation. If it's peak season, or the hotel has a high occupancy rate, you would need to reserve your room before hand. Some hotels would require credit card to confirm your reservation, but still there are some hotels who would confirm your reservation for you even without a credit card.

Just inform them when you reserve your room that you'll be paying in cash upon check-in.

While it's true that most hotels require a credit card from guests upon check-in, this is only for guarantee. You can tell the hotel that as an alternative, you would be willing to pay a deposit as exchange for the credit card guarantee. You will get the deposit upon check out and after settling any other additional charges you may have incurred.

I have always reserved my hotels online with my credit card via http://toronto.hotelclub.com/ and I didn't have any problems (In case you're afraid of providing your credit card details) but, if you want to pay in cash, I think you can do so via 'Bank Transfer'. Just make sure to reserve your hotel way in advance to ensure that the funds get cleared.

Usually most hotels up here require a credit card number to reserve a room, but you can make your actual payment any way you like.  I would just give them a call and find out what your options are.  You could also look into things like Travelocity.com where you book the room and pay for it directly online.
