what record does a team need to have to get a good high number 1 draft pic?

You need to have less wins than anybody else, whatever that is;  if your record is tied, they look at head-to-head competition and common opponents. Only 1 team can get the # 1 draft pick, or any of the picks for that matter - team with the worst record goes 1st.

For example, look at the Dolphins - they were 1 and 15!

2006 Raiders- they had 1-4 wins cant remember

its whoever has the worst record gets the num 1 pick and it goes in order of worst to best. usually the team is 3-13.

Teams pick in the draft based on their won-loss record the previous year. The only time this changes:

1. Playoff teams pick based on where they finished; meaning the Super Bowl champs pick last; etc.

2. Trades; meaning a team can trade a number of picks to move up or down.
