can u brief describe what does a ophthalmologist do? How many years need to be studied and the degree required and also the annual salary??

  1. opthamolagist is a medical doctor that specializes in the eyes. they are the ones that can check your eyes and perscribe medicines. optitions are the ones that fill the perscription

    as for the degree required would be a phd and the annual slary would be around that of other doctors it will vary where you work

Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who treat diseases and conditions of the eye.  Generally they are not the people you go to just to have glasses or contact lenses prescribed, but that is just because there are other people (optometrists) who are also qualified to do that (and who generally charge less per office visit).  They can perform surgical procedures as well (some procedures, like Lasik, are sometimes undertaken by people without full ophthalmalogic training).

    Ophthalmologists hold an MD or a DO and have a minimum of four years of residency after medical school:  one preliminary year in either medicine, surgery or pediatrics and three specialized years of training to follow.  They may then go on to further training in fellowships if they intend to specialize.
