I just got strep yesterday, and its time to take my 2nd antibiotic. Is it ok if I split it in 2 parts, and take each smaller part? Cause you wouldn't believe how big those pills are! They are like, horse pills! Will it give me an overdose and kill the **** out of me? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

  1. What pill ?

  2. It sounds like you are talking about Augemetin 875mg or the generic form. If that's the case then yes you can split them. If it's not Augmentin 875 you should ask your pharmacist. Some pills are  timed released and should not be broken as this may destroy the time release mechanism.

  3. Some pills are not designed to be split and will not work very well. Call your pharmacist where you got them and he or she will tell you for sure. Don't take a chance on not getting better.

  4. I don't see any reason why you can't split them but best to consult with the pharmacist where you bought them. Best of Luck hope you feel better soon.

  5. If they are regular tablets yes you can.  You can grind them up, cut them to chunks or take them however you wish.  Just make sure you follow the instructions on the bottle in terms of how many pills you need to take per day, the period of time you should wait between doses and make sure you know whether you need to take it with or without food.  You can't split pills if they are capsules.
