About playing different games with a baseball bat?

I was thinking about buying a baseball bat tomorrow and a base ball. And so i was wondering is there another way to play a game with a ball and a bat? I mean baseball is fun and all but i want to know if you can play another game with them?

When I was a child me and my friends had no money to purchase a baseball. One day we found a basketball in a dumpster so we used it instead. It actually worked better than it sounds. Not many flyballs. Sometimes when hitting the basketball the bat would bounce off the ball and hit you in the face. Bloody nose summer it was.
