About resizing a pic for Yahoo avatar?

I have a picture which is too big 2 fit in my avatar.How can I resize it without cutting?I used ACDSee but after resize,u can view it resized in ACDSee but not resized in avatar :(

  2. An easy way to resize a picture would be Ms-Paint.

    Open a picture with "Paint"

    Click-"File" on the top of the window, then click "Save as"

    Before you hit the save button, choose JPEG format for the picture, and save it.

    It will automatically reduce the size of your picture.

It's not necessarilly the size of the pic.  My pic is bigger than the avatar pic, but was automatically resized for the avatar.  You don't say what size your image file is, but it has to be under 5MB in size.  So check the size of the file, then in small increments, change the image size.  I'm not familiar with the photo editing software you mention, otherwise I'd tell you exactly what to do.  In Photoshop, you have to have the "Constrain Proportion" box checked.  What it does is it automatically resizes proportionately when you change the size of either length or width.  So look for a related setting in your application.
