About rock hounds?

I have always been interested in looking for interesting rocks, agates, ruby's, etc, is there a job out there that allows you to be a rock hound?

Well I have managed it. I have been a professional gemmologist for over 40 years now. I went to university after school and got myself a PhD. in mineralogy and a MSc. in crystallography. After a few quick jobs in research labs. I kicked out on my own, I did some prospecting in various parts of the world and also bought rough gems from the mine to have cut and sell in Europe. I do not travel so much these days but I still carry on my gem consultancy. I have loved every moment and work still feels like a hobby that people pay me to do.
