1. They always have a plan..it may be just to determine if your ready to loose the braces and then if you are, they remove them..That will be followed by providing you with a "Retainer" appliance, and let me tell you now so it won't come as a shock later...."Retainers" are "Forever"....That's right, you need to wear a Retainer from now on...At first the DDS will no doubt instruct you to wear it almost 24/7, but after several weeks you will be able to wear it on a .limited basis that will be for at least 8 to 10 hours per day...The retainer will keep your teeth aligned...Down in the tooth socket there are tiny muscles and ligaments that attach to the body of the tooth and to the tooth socket wall....When your braces moved the teeth those appendages were twisted and stretched and to be honest with you they aren't happy about that...In fact, if you fail to wear the Retainer as required those appendages will simply pull the teeth back to their original position and you will have wasted your time and money....Good luck and I wish you well.

 2. They usually tell you the appointment before that they will be taken off the next time you come, they don't just take them off randomly. I don't know about your orthodontist but mine had a set date from the day they were put on, and he gave me a time frame of how long it would approximately be until they came off. So it is unlikely that they would do it at this appointment, unless it was already set from the previous appointment. It takes longer to take them off so it has to be a longer appointment - Good Luck =)

 3. they do it unplanned or they might just be tightening them. trust me i have had a retainer, braces, tongue thrust, bionator, and now i am getting braces again, i have experience!!

 4. they will usually mention you're almost done for a few visits before they take them off. for me, it was planned, and they did a bunch of last minute stuff and it took a few hours. usually when they remove braces it takes a really long time, so you'd probably have to make a special appointment.

 5. well they definitely planned it for me - but maybe your orthodontist is different

 6. They will need more time to remove them vs a standard visit -- so you'll likely have to come back another time so they can block more time in their schedule

 7. It will be a planned appt for you. They allow so much time for appts like that and it usally takes about 30 to 45 mins to take them off with removing the brackets and then cleaning off the cement.

 8. It is going to be planned for next visit, well thats what they did for me:)
