Question:

About the '08 Toyota Tacoma I may get?

I've been trying to decide between a 2003 V6 Tacoma and a new 2008 V4 Tacoma. Mostly it will be on the road and I think the 2008 V4 is a better choice. The 2003 I was looking at is a V6 with access cab and a camper roof and 17 inch tires. The 2003 obviously will eat more gas from weight and it being a V6.

Okay, so Tacoma 2008 new V4 regular cab, automatic, 2.7 liter engine. 2WD. Factory invoice price is $14,036 last I checked. Retail not sure but the sticker price at the dealership I went to was $17,035. Same dealership emailed me an "internet price" quote of $15,436.

Two things I wanted to get opinions/answers on. I'm thinking $15,436(before taxes) is an alright price for this truck as long as I refuse to pay any fees like "delivery fees" and other things that were already taken care of by the factory or whoever. Basically that price and necessary taxes by state law and that's it.

And the other thing is that I'm thinking this truck will be great for driving empty as in just me in the driver's seat and nothing in the bed. And will still be a good drive with a few hundred pounds of stuff in the bed and a hardshell camper roof. Am I right in this? Will the hardshell cause a top heavy issue?

Once I get a hardshell, it will stay on most of the time. So just that and me driving, I weight about 160 pounds.

Is the price and what the truck can do about right from what I have here?

  1. go to edmunds.com for a review

  2. I think the price is good. (It's I4 (inline 4), not V4, The V type engine is with 6 ore more cylinders.) Anyway, We had the same thing, regular cab with stick shift. Is   We also had a 6 cylinder a year later with access cab, also stick shift. It will be fine on regular off road, like what you find in regular camping places. In the snow you will need snow tires (if you live in an area like that), but at tirerack.com you will be able to find very cheap and good tires.. For pricing on the truck in your area go to Edmund's.com, type your zip code an select Toyota, then Tacoma and it will give you a "true market value" which is what other people pay for that truck in your area. I think we paid around $15.000. My husband loved the 4 cylinder better than the V6. It was better on gas too. In my area, NY, it says the True market value is 15.145 minus $800 cash rebate (until Sept. 1) so  that's $14345..

I added  rear slide window in it (for $160), most of them come with that and We had it too and loved the little air. So maybe try to get the price down a little an/or visit other dealer. Make sure the access cab is big enough, my husband is 6' tall and was just enough. It should be enough truck for you though.. Good luck!

I saw that the '09 is expensiver, they added 6 airbags, 4 wheel ABS, traction and stability control!!! It's going to be little more expensive then '08 but it might worth it?
