for both the house of reps and the senate

they are given a certain amount of tax payer money that they can spend

like if they need to fly to the capitol, they used tax payers money to go there

but only a certain limit is given to how much you can spend

i was wondering if anyone knew that limit for both the house and the senate

please and thank you

  1. Each member of the House and Senate gets a budget to hire staff, rent space in their districts, pay utility bills and yes travel between home and Washington, DC.

The amount in the House of Representatives is about $1 million per office per year.   Members of the House of Representatives can hire 18 full time and 4 part-time employees - no more.  Each office gets a slightly different budget based on thre main issues - distance/cost to get from home to DC, cost of rent in the district,  and population density.

For example, members from Maryland get very little travel money because they can drive.  Members who represent Manhattan get lots of extra money because office space is so expensive to rent.  And the Member from South Dakota gets extra money for postage because it is so expensive to mail newsletters to all his constituents (members in urban districts get less because they can use bulk mail rates not available in rural areas.)

Senators get much larger budgets because they represent whole states but like the House, each Senator gets a slightly different amount (California gets a lot more) because of population and distance from Washington DC.

  2. Both are not doing what they were elected to do, protect out citizens...
