Quick question regarding the ipod 2.0.1 backing up feature.

When I sync my iPod touch it says that it is backing up the iPod. Sometimes this take a while, other times it is fairly speedy. My question is: what exactly is it backing up, and where is it backing it up to?

  1. 1) I'm not sure exactly what is being backed up. By the size, I would guess all data. So any preferences you've set, any apps you've added and their preferences and support files.

    2) Location is much easier to tell you.

    ~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/

The files end with "_Restore.ipsw". This is actually a zip file. Unzipping it results in a backup of the firmware, a plist file, and password locked dmg files.

  2. it mainly backs up music videos and different settings

    where? i have no idea

but when i restored a jailbroken ipod and reverted to backup, it did restore the saved files from the installer apps

  3. its just depends on what settings you use to backup your Itunes. could be backing up the whole library or new music downloads the more you backup the longer it takes

normaly the backups goto a burned disk
