  1. Here are a couple of links that you may find useful in your future ghost hunting endeavors.

  2. Everyone already said what I would have! But I will say again- Never go alone!!! Has nothing to do with anything paranormal, just general safety precautions!

That said, if you are going to try to catch any EVPs on your voice recorder, be sure to wait a few minutes between each question that you ask. And don't be disappointed if you don't find anything. Even if there is something there, ghosts don't perform on command.

  3. I guess you have to start somewhere, but it sounds like you are not prepared yet, physically nor spiritually.  Surely you've watch television programs, like ghost busters, ect. There's more to it than video camera and EVP.  Do more research before you get into "Investigating" houses.

  4. First, I'd advise you not to go alone.  Is the house empty or occupied?  If it's empty, you should have permission from the owners to go inside.  If occupied, talk to the residents of the house to find out exactly what they are experiencing.  Try to duplicate the events (doors slamming, etc).  If you can't re-create the event, THEN consider it may be paranormal.

What type of camera?  I myself do not use a digital camera, for many reasons.  Even a cheap drugstore disposable will work just fine.  When you drop it off to get the film developed, make sure to tell them you want every photo developed on the roll.

Take lots of extra batteries.  It's been my experience that batteries drain quickly if there's any activity there.

Take flashlights, too.  Carry ID and a cell phone.  Let someone know where you are.

When trying for an EVP, speak normally and leave room for answers.  You won't hear anything until you get home and review your recording.

And be careful!  Let us know how it goes.

  5. Make sure you have permission and someone else knows where you are going.

Take extra batteries. If you have an EMF detector and a one of those hand held infrared thermometers it is good.

Have a meet-up planned at someone's house although it may be almost daylight before you break for the night. Got to a Steak-n-shake or some other all night chain, few people want visitors at 4:45 AM talking loud and excitedly.

Make limits if people get too scared stop. If anyone is hurt, stop.

Lastly and should be your first rule and everyone will have fun. Just watch all those "A Haunting" programs to see if this doesn't hold true:

    "Arrive together, leave together."

  6. first evp is not a device it is the evidence you find when you look at the recordings from a recorder other then that no one can tell you if your ready or not you need to decide that on your own and if you choose wrong you will find out during the investigation my suggestion is get a few books and watch some shows but the books are really more important from the shows because the shows are edited so you dont see everything they do or everything that happens but definitly look into some books about the subject

  7. When you use the word "I" it leads me to believe that you are going alone.  If that is the case, the first tip I have for you is do not go alone.  obviously there is the safety factor, but if you were to witness an event that you believe to be paranormal, it is best if someone else is there for verification.

Other than that, please be careful and have a good time!  And always have written permission to investigate.

  8. As a good investigator of anything would, you should enter the investigation assuming nothing.  It should be your goal to gather data with the goal of not proving a haunting, but observing and attempting to record what is present in an objective and impartial manner.  Listen to the stories and anecdotes, but don't try to gather evidence in support of them.  To do otherwise will taint your findings with bias.  What equipment you bring means very little in comparison to the frame of mind you bring with you.

If you wish to see how to *not* investigate a reported haunting, watch those TV shows.  They are terrible investigators.
