How do you know how much to tip someone who tattoos. I have no clue. It is by the amount of the total price, or what? I'm clueless....

  1. when i got all 3 i tiped him 150 but if you are getting one just 50 but has to do a really good job i have 2 big and 1 little

  2. When I was still just "postage stamping" my tips were typically very small.  About $5-$10 if I was happy with the work.  My upper back piece is very large, extends over my shoulders and halfway down my back.  This took many separate sessions as it is quite detailed and I have extremely friable skin.  When the work was finally done I tipped the artist (because he was an artist, not just a copyist) $500 and presented him with a free meal, everything included, for himself and a guest at a local restaurant.  (I happen to be the chef there, so.... make of that what you will.)

I agree with the 15-20 percent guideline - IF it is original art.  If it's just flash you can get away with slightly less.  Also take into account how happy you are with the finished product.  If I do a bad job on your meal, I can expect no accolades.  If I do an incredibly good job and you are absolutely weepy with joy - well, it's rude to tip a chef de cuisine.  But  your server will be very happy, I would hope.

  3. Typically its 15 - 20% of total price, but if you feel they have done an excellent job, then give them more....I mean after all they have done a piece of work on your body and if you go back for more, you want them to remember and take good care of you the next time.
