Question:

About visiting the sick... PhilOrtho hospital?

Been to Philippine Orthopaedic Hospital because of Opus Dei (I visited once because of my classmate who is a member), and we visited two sick people there. And I enjoyed it, and I wanted to do it again, without ever going to Opus Dei first, or no any medium at all, since I am not a Catholic, so I don't think Opus Dei will work for me.

But anyway, I noticed that the female who lead us to the sick didn't get any permission, we just went straight to the sick people and choose whoever we wanted to speak up to. The people there were so friendly and would welcome us (not mataray or anything)

I was just wondering, can I visit again without having to go to Opus Dei? And how? Like, just go there directly again and choose one?

  1. Maybe you can find another charity, non profit, non religious organization to affiliate with to visit the hospital's sick ward. As much as your intentions are noble, hospitals operate under a strict code and regulations. With your prior experience, Opus Dei didn't need the permission maybe because they have established a working presence with the hospital. Some of their members are often part of the medical staff.

My concern would be for your safety as well. Wards usually have a high turnover of patients, there's also the possibility of catching a disease or virus during your visit and who would be responsible for your well being?

Also hospitals don't allow complete strangers to walk around the wards There are incidents of cell phone theft and other criminal activities in hospitals. It would be difficult for you let's say, if you get into a security situation, being an unwarranted visitor in the area, get the blame for a theft incident just by being there.

If you are really into this, find another group you can support. But wouldn't it be awkward to bump into the Opus Dei at philOrtho?

Goodluck girl! Volunteering is always a good way to spend your youth
