About what age do kids start coloring in the lines?

I want to start my son on focusing to color in the lines & be more careful then to just scribble all around.

But I don't know if he's too young or what. He'll be 3 years old in 3 weeks! Thanks ~

maybe 4 or five years old

About now age 3.  Get a simple coloring book.  You can increase the border by using a black marker to make the lines very thick like 1/4 inch.

My b/f's little girl turned 3 at the end of May and she tries to color in the lines for the most part but sometimes gets out of the lines and then colors the rest of the objects in with that specific crayon. I think about 4 or 5 is when they actually get more into coloring in the lines.
