We're getting ready to move before next Summer, and we're highly thinking about moving into a house with an in ground pool. If the pool is in good condition with no work needed to be done to it, about what does it cost to care for it each year? Thanks!

  1. Concrete walls are cheaper than pools with rubber liners in them. For a home, salt water generators are cheaper than chlorine. Chlorine has gone up dramatically over the years and is continuing to rise. In a perfect world, get a home with concrete walls and a salt water generator. Price wise, it depends on how long you plan on using it (how many months a year). So this depends on where you plan on living. In Georgia, The months are usually only 4 or 5. Then it depends on if you plan on keeping it filled during the winter, again depends on where you live. A 50 lb bucket of chlorine is approx. $120.00. You also need pH up and down, alkalinity booster and calcium (cement walls). Rough guess would be $200 just for chemicals. You also need to add in the extra electricity for the pump(s). Be sure they have timers on them. This keeps the cost way down. Your best bet would be to get with a company in your area that maintains pools, they can give you a good number. Another issue is when people not knowing what they are doing are trying to keep up a pool and guessing on what chemicals are needed. This can be very wasteful. Be sure to get a pool test kit every year, they do go bad. But wouldn't it be so fun to have all those pool party's. How can you put a price on friendship and fun. Good luck...

  2. I have a concrete one, now a days it will cost a fortune to get one, but as long as your pipes stay in one piece it can be cheaper than above ground pools to maintain.

If there is a liner it will be harder to clean.  You also have to consider where the water table is next to your pool.  My pool is right next to a creek so we have to keep it full of water in the winter which means more time spent cleaning it in the summer.. (but if you as me, cleaning the ol' pool can be fun)

Whatever you do, don't fill it in, in ground pools are the best because you can put trampolines near them which is really really dangerous but worth it!

With above grounds you have to maintain a deck.. what a pain

  3. i own a pool company and price wise to maintain a pool month in month out is 150.00 to 200.00 per month depending on where you live.average
