Internet Chat and IM (Instant Messaging) give you the ability to exchange text, video, and images over the Internet in real-time. Instant messaging is a conversation between two people, while chatting involves any number of people in the same chat room. In order to utilize chat or messaging services, you will need an Internet-connected computer and one of any number of software packages designed to allow you access to the chat rooms. You set up a list of friends and online contacts and the software will notify you whenever one of your contacts is online. You will then be allowed to converse and share files across the Internet.
