About xp installation files

i'm having a case -in a laptop with hard drive 40 gb. partitioned as 1primary with 10 gb space and rest logical with 3 partition of equal size named c,d,e,f respectively. here c is active as well as primary partition.
i wish to know if i install xp sp2 in d drive ie not the active partition and not primary partition as well , question 1. will it harm in any way.
2. where will the system files like boot.ini, ntdetect,ntldr,autoexec.bat,io.sys etc will be located.
3. in future if i happend to reformat primary partition ie c will it do any problem.
4 in future i install another copy of xp on same machine (fresh installation ) on c drive now does this installation will do any problem.
5 do both installation have their own boot.ini,ntdetect,ntldr,autoexec,io.sys,msdos.sys.
kindly give your review on any extra matter i have left in following case.
