Above Ground Pool Question - why is my water cloudy?

Hi Guys,

Quick question for everyone, I have an intex above ground 18ft x 12 ft oval pool. About 2 weeks ago i got some algae on the bottom (basically left the despenser out by accident) so i shock treated the pool. I also replaced the filter and put new tablets in the despenser. However last weekend the water was still cloudy and green. I have cleaned the algae off and we went in it Monday and its was very dark..

Does anyone know what that could be?? The filter is clean and i shocked it again Monday night, yet when i looked at it on Tuesday it was still cloudy.

Please help!!!

  1. Hi!

First of all don't get "pool stored" they are in the business to sell your pool chems. and they usually make a bad situation worse.

First get yourself a good test kit and check your chlorine, pH, Total Alkalinity levels as well as your CYA level. If these are not in balance. Your water won't be and you'll have nothing but problems.

Post all that info at http://www.troublefreepools.com these people are great, they are a bunch of pool owners who help each other and help you maintain your pool and SANITY!

Your pool will be sparkling again in no time!!

  2. Seems everyone is having that problem this year, myself included. I brought a water sample to namco ( where I bought my pool origionally) and they test it for free.  They told me my alkalinity was low.  they suggested A.B.C , Alkalinity Balance control.  Its a a powder you put in the pool.  After adding it sweep your pool, an let it run over night.  The next day vaccume your pool and back wash it. My levels are all fine now that i did that, and have had crystal clear water for a week.  hope this helps.
