Question:

Above Ground Pool deck?

I am looking into building a deck partailly around our 27 foot above ground pool. We live in Illinois and I am not sure if I can use Dek-Block's for the footings or do I need to bury concrete below the frost line. I know with the Dek-Blocks that the deck will float, but is that ok. Especially around a pool. I want the deck to last.

  1. pour concrete!!! the ground under the deck is always wet from people getting in and out. the blocks will sink in the mud and cause problems. when i built mine i went 4 ft.deep  to be safe. solid as a rock.

  2. Where you live I would go below the frost line to be safe.If you don't the deck can heave in the spring and not always settle back to it's original position.Better safe than sorry and it won't hurt your equity either.

  3. i live in tn and we built a deck out of pine and its lasted 13yrs and still going

  4. Check with you local inspections office. I am sure you will need a permit.

  5. Blocks are ok.......just go under the deck when building and x brace the posts every once in a while........it's easy, not that hard to do............you can always pour a few solid post piers later after you have it built..........You may want to skirt it with lattice or something else depending who looks at it.  Have fun, that's nice work to do your self.......makes you think and learn........bye.
