Abraham and Solomon?

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 585:

Narrated Abu Dhar:

I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Which mosque was first built on the surface of the earth?" He said, "Al-Masjid-ul-Haram (in Mecca)." I said, "Which was built next?" He replied "The mosque of Al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem)." I said, "What was the period of construction between the two?" He said, "Forty years." He added, "Wherever (you may be, and) the prayer time becomes due, perform the prayer there, for the best thing is to do so (i.e. to offer the prayers in time)."

See also Vol. 4, No. 636 with a different concluding remark, but essentially the same narration for the part concerning the "historical information".

In rought estimates, Abraham lived about 2000 BC, and Solomon about 950 BC. According to Muhammad Abraham built the Kaaba (Bukhari, Vol. 4, No. 584), calling its original or true foundations "the foundations of Abraham" (Vol. 5, No. 587). That Abraham ever went to Mecca is contrary to Biblical records, and none has been able to give me any historical confirmation of this claim. Whether this is true or not is, however, irrelevant for our observation. It is only important that Muhammad believed it to be true. It was Solomon who built the first temple in Jerusalem.

This is obviously not a difference of 40 years, but a difference of over 1000 years. Even though this is not a Qur'an contradiction I have included it here since it gives additional evidence from the Hadith that the feature of historical time compression that is observed in many Qur'anic passages was a characteristic of Muhammad's mind and can also be seen in his other pronouncements outside the Qur'an.

  1. First of all. You should not ask us to prove anything from history. In that case you have to prove the whole bible from hisotry. In reality many of the historial have denied the very existense of Jesus.

However, in reply to your actual question. From Islamic perspective Prophet Isaac first build the Masjid Al Qasa. King Solomon reconstructed it later. This is the exact reason we don't call it Solomon's temple.

Edit: I don't really have proof at this point that who has built Masjid Alqsa first time. As per my knowledge there is no hadith also to prove that Sulaiman AS first build it. As per historical proofs, do you have any historical proofs to prove that Abraham ever existed?? It is meaningless to ask historical proofs to us. We trust Prophet Mohammed PBUH because we believe him to be Prophet. For you bible is authentic!!! but not for us. right, in this case before quoting anything from bible first YOU have prove that those verse of bible from history.

Edit: To prove hadith wrong, you have to bring another hadith or verse of Quran that contradicts with this hadith. If saheeh hadith contradicts with bible them bible is indeed wrong. It is absolutely meaningless to prove error in hadith from bible?? It is like testing a mesusing instrument by using a faulty tester.

  2. Beatalic Messiah, I don't know the answer. But I have a question for you:

Why ask questions on ramadan, if you think Islam is not a true religion? Is it just to make Muslims feel bad? We do manage to answer your questions on yahoo answers either way. (Not me because I don't have enough knowledge, but other Muslims do answer your questions) Are you just trying to understand the faith or are you considering becoming a Muslim again?

  3. It really makes me lough when people like you start talking about History.

Did you know Historians dont even think that Jesus ever existed?

As for al-aqsa, Solomon only rebuild it.

People like you willl try thier best to prove islam wrong, but they will never succeed.

    Edit

dont worry about my beliefs, 1st prove me jesus existed.Since u came up with the history topic.

( as a muslim i do believe jesus existed, but unlike some dumb people i am not worried about the historical proofs.Quran is enough for me as a evidence of the truth )

  4. historically, there is nothing to prove or disprove those people even existed.

unless major archeological breakthroughs are made, arguing in this matter is pointless.

  5. I believe in the god of the jews

  6. Some Commentators of the Qur’an says Ka`bah was built by Prophet Adam (Alaihi Al Salam)  and Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihi Al Salam)  and his son Isma`il (Alaihi Al Salam)  only rebuilt the Ka`bah, and that Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihi Al Salam)  was guided to the site.

Some Others Commentators says  it was first built by the angels on this earth. When Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihi Al Salam) arrived at the place of the Ka`bah, the building itself did not exist. Even the city of Makkah had no inhabitants. Allah showed Prophet Ibrahim(Alaihi Al Salam) ) the site of the Ka`bah (Al-Hajj: 26) and then he and his son Isma`il (Alaihi Al Salam) ) together raised its foundations and built it from the ground up. (Al-Baqarah: 127).

As for who built Al Aqsa mosque, there is a disagreement among historians over that issue. Some say it was built by Adam (Alaihi Al Salam). Others say it was built by Abraham (Alaihi Al Salam).Apparently, it was built by Yaqub Ibn Ishaq Ibn Ibrahim (Alaihim Al Salam) and Allah knows Best.

All Commentators of Qur'an & Hadith Agrees :- As for Sulaiman's (Alaihi Al Salam) building of the Aqsa mosque, it was only a rebuilding and rehabilitation, not laying the foundation, as there were more than forty years between Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Sulaiman (Alaihima Al Salam) and it is certain that Ibrahim (Alaihi Al Salam) built the Holy Mosque in Mekkah and there were forty years between it and Al Aqsa mosque as narrated in the sound Hadith cited above.

    Allah knows best.

    Edit@Asker

The People of the Book said Esau threatened to kill his brother when their father was dead. They also said that he asked his father to pray for him that Allah make the earth good for his offsprin and multiply his sustenance and fruits.

When their mother knew that Esau threatened his brother Jacob, she commanded her son Jacob(pbuh) to go to her brother Laban in the land of Haran and abide with him for a time until his brother's anger had abated, and to marry one of the Laban's daughters. she told her husband Isaac to command him with that advice and pray for him, and he did.

Jacob (pbuh) left his family, when night came he found a place to rest. He took a stone and put it under his head and slept. He dreamed of a ladder from heaven to earth. Angels were ascending and descending and the Lord addressed him and said to him; "I will bless you and your offspring and make this land for you and for those who come after you."

When he awoke he felt joyful from what he had seen in his dream and vowed, for Allah's sake that if he returned to his family safely, he would build here a temple for Allah the Almighty. He also vowed to give one tenth of his property for the sake of Allah. He poured oil on the stone so as to recognize it and called the place "Ayle's House" (Bethel), which means "House of Allah". It was to be the location of Jerusalem later.
