CSKA Moscow and the Russian national team attacking midfielder, Alan Dzagoev, remained on the bench in Russia’s second and third qualifying matches of the World Cup against Israel and Portugal before making it to the starting line-ups
against Northern Ireland.
There is little arguing to the statement that Zenit St. Petersburg’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Viktor-Fayzulin-c36130 has controlled the midfield region effectively ever since the start of the qualifying rounds.
The aforementioned players were so good in Russia’s latest game against group favourites, Portugal, at Luzhniki stadium on Friday that it is hard to see Dzagoev back in action in the next match against Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
Fabio Capello, who replaced d**k Advocaat this summer, made it clear that he will select players based on what they do in training.
The Italian tactician has been praised for making the right selections ahead of the qualifying matches. The former AC Milan man was particularly praised for picking up controversy-hit Zenit St. Petersburg’s Igor Denisov prior to
the match against the Navigators.
The 66-year-old proved the world that he does not like to compromise on quality by excluding the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pavel-Pogrebnyak-c29501 from the team.
Roman Abramov has warned Dzagoev to improve his form if he wants to play in Tuesday’s fixture, saying that he cannot expect to win his place without impressing Capello in the training process.
“Capello monitors the character of the players. He likes disciplined players. Dzagoev needs to control his temper. He had been a star performer at the Euros but he needs to work harder for his place.” The Russian national was quoted
as saying.
Abramov went on to shower praise on Igor Akinfeev, saying that the 26-year-old is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“Capello made the right decision to include Akinfeev. He is an amazing goalkeeper, who knows how to handle the gates in crucial matches," he said.
As things stand, the Euro 2008 semi-finalists are at the top-spot on their group table with nine points.
