Question:

Abs for Runners...?

The more I get into distance running, the more I read about the importance of a strong core. I have a very minor herniation of my L5-S1 disc in my lower back, which even further emphasizes my need for a great core routine.

Any runners have a good core/ab routine they'd care to share? Send links if you use a website!

Thanks!

  1. I really like bicycles, they're a great work out. However i think that the more you run the stronger that the muscles you utilize when you run become. However, if you feel like you need to work out your core outside of running then i would suggest  doing some bicycles

  2. yeah having flat 6pack abs are useful because they relieve stress on your other muscles

other than the basic core workouts

i do 30 situps and immediately follow with 30 crunches (pretty much everyday)

  3. Yoga helps. I'm a sprinter and a Hurdler. Yoga helps stretch, relax and tone my muscles.

    It does help tons.

If yoga is part of your regular routine for 2-3 weeks you will start seeing improvement and a nice core.

I did this and I love to show off my musculer stomach.

    Hope this helped.

  4. I like planks. They have really improved my core.

  5. Planks are considered to be one of the best core stabilizing activities... They target the core of the core, so to speak, and not just the out "6pack" abs.
