Absence of David Wright hurt New York Mets with two defeats in a row - MLB Update
For so long as David Wright remained part of the New York Mets, the club enjoyed their ideal run of 2012 regular season. Unfortunately for the Mets, his fractured right finger has not only sidelined him from the season at the moment, but has also has the
Mets forgetting their winning ways.
As per the manager Terry Collins he can be back soon. Just because of the same expectation, he has not been put on the disabled list yet.
Contrary to this, reports suggest that Wright may not be fit as early as expected and therefore the Mets are going to bear the brunt.
His presence on the plate is so important for the whole team that the moment he faces at-bats, pitchers see their mind got riddled automatically with so many questions about his tactics and thus become vulnerable naturally. This allows other batters with
the Mets to capitalise on the situation.
His team-mates are rightly convinced of an impact his absence leaves on the performance of the club.
“As much as you want to say everybody picks each other up, David was a big part of what we were doing early on,” Jason Bay said. “You take David out of that equation and it’s going to hurt a little bit.”
Mets first baseman Ike Davis while acknowledging the role Wright plays for the side considers him an important component of the Mets' offence.
“David is a great hitter. We get hits with him, and pitchers maybe get a little more tired because they have to concentrate really hard when David is hitting, and the more you can wear them out, hopefully they make more mistakes,’’ Davis said.
Injury he has gotten on his finger is presently of a mild nature but given a gradual build up to a severe injury he experienced last year from a slight injury at the start, nothing reliably can be suggested about his return.
At the moment the Mets cannot afford to rush Wright back to the line-up only to see him injured again in the next few games. The ideal scenario will be that Wright is given a proper rest before being allowed a run again in the season.
