My business is run by my employees. I rarely attend the office. Other than employing a forensic auditor is there anything else I should be watching for?

  1. I have been there, My Friend.

At one time, I Professored at a private University, owned 2 restaurant/nightclubs, a Consulting Corp., and a Certified Financial Planning practice.

I was rarely able to be in all those places within the same week.

The restaurant/nightclubs needed constant vigilance, whereas the Professional employees needed less supervision.

Like you, I hired outside auditors to oversee the books/operations---performing inspections/audits frequently.

Additionally, your Accountant needs to be advised that you are not working within the organization.  This will allow the Accountant to be highly observant of the information he receives in the Corporate paperwork.

Depending on the type of business you operate ( professionals need less personal observation and more "numbers" observation), forensic or outside contract audits, coupled with accountancy vigilance should be appropriate.
