Absinthe Minded to run for her hat-trick in the Azeri Stakes
Briland Farm’s 5-year-old mare, Absinthe Minded, has been successful in the 2012 campaign, with two victories in as many starts, and more importantly both wins came at Oaklawn Park, where she is set to make her third start of the season, in the Grade 3,
$150,000 Azeri Stakes over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 17 March, 2012, against 4 other fillies.
D. Wayne Lukas trained, Absinthe Minded, has always been fond of the Oaklawn Park race course for quite some time now, and the mare proved it by winning back to back races in 2012, starting from the Pippin Stakes at about 1 1/16 miles on 21 January, 2012,
where she defeated Tiz Miz Sue in second and She’s All In in third, while Absinthe Minded covered the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 45.27 seconds.
Next up was the, Bayakoa Stakes, where the top 3 finishers of the race were same as the Pippin Stakes race, an identical top 3 in the Bayakoa, Absinthe Minded came out of the race as the victor yet again, downing Tiz Miz Sue for the second time running on
18 February, 2012, and She’s All In finished behind Tiz Miz Sue in third.
Absinthe Minded covered the distance in 1 minute and 44 seconds flat.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the way she's going right now," Lukas said. "She's been getting a lot out of her work in the mornings and she seems to be getting better and stronger every day."
The Kentucky bred daughter of Quiet American, out of mare Rockford Peach by Great Above, Absinthe Minded capped off the 2011 season with a 10th place finish in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes over a distance of 1 mile at Keeneland to winner Never Retreat.
The worst defeat of her career.
Absinthe Minded will face Tiz Miz Sue, and She’s All In again in the Azeri Stakes, over the 1 1/16 mile Oaklawn Park’s dirt course, where she will be running for her hat-trick and to down her first graded stakes victory of the new season.
She drew post number 1, with her usual jockey T. Thompson to be aboard the filly once again
