Absinthe?????

Question

Is it really true that you can get absinthe in the US now? Or can I order it from overseas and not get it taken by customs? My 24th birthday is in about a month and a half and I really want an absinthe set...... glasses spoons the little box..... can I get it legally?

no you can't and anything advertised as "absinthe" in the US is fake...

i know this for a fact. true absinthe is made w/ an extract from wormwood and makes you hallucinate...any real absinthe is illegal.

It's definitely legal in the U.S. now. One of my friends roomate is the promoter for Absinthe in San Francisco.

look for lucid its a brand of absinthe and it is aval in us(at least in minnesota) and yes it does have worm wood in it

Yes! You CAN now buy absinthe in the United States since 1915!!!. ;D

If you want to splurge- "La Fee" is pretty good. The Absinthe Parisienne is my favorite.

"La Fée Absinthe Parisienne is distilled in Paris based on a 19th Century recipe containing wormwood and is the only absinthe authenticated by Marie-Claude Delahaye, founder and curator of the absinthe museum."

This website offers it with about a week turnaround.

If you want something a little more economical -"Absente", is a great alternative( as far as look and taste goes) to La Fee's Parisian Absinthe. Its sold in many chain liquer stores such as ABC liquer & Total Wine. Absente also comes in gift packs with a slotted spoon and absinthe glasses.

Most people have only heard of it and heard the rumours about it but  have never even drank it themselves---- I have been drinking it for a few years. I also collect absinthe related items.  ;D

We approve the use of the term "absinthe" on the label of a distilled spirits product and in related advertisements only if the product is "thujone-free" pursuant to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) regulation at 21 CFR 172.510.

I agree with DrosseL. Any absinthe sold in the US is "fake" in the sense that it does not have the ingredient that supposedly causes hallucinations. That ingredient, wormwood and its derivative thujune, is illegal in the US for human consumption.

So all the absinthe marketed in the US does not have this ingredient and therefore will not make you hallucinate. So it's just a high proof liquorice tasting drink. And yes, you can get this legally.
