  1. Absolute denied the cheating for the longest time and refused to look into it until the evidence was overwhelming.  Interestingly enough, it was their own screwup that made the cheating apparent (they sent the hand histories to someone and it showed that the cheater could see the other hands).  Even presented with the evidence they supplied accidently, they denied it was going on.  Their support is horrible, and the variety of games is dismal, why waste your money there?

As for absolute responding asap....bs.  It wasn't just a tournament, the cheaters took over 100k in cash games that was not refunded.  He played the high end cash games, he got caught because of really stupid tournament play, calling preflop raises with 2/5 and hamering against a/k that didn't hit, stuff like that the whole tournament (his name was pot reaper) I had played against him in a tournament, and never got refunded....they might have refunded for that one tournament, but not the one I played in, nor the cash players. He supposedly cashed out over 100k from absolute over a 6 month period of time, he got bolder and bolder which lead to him getting caught. There was supposedly another suspect id too.

  2. I disagree on what you guys are saying about AP…

Absolute Poker recovered from a scam headed by a mid level employee and came out trumps and to the rescue of many players.  Where most online poker rooms would have hid, Absolute Poker showed their players commitment and loyalty by taking full responsibility for all affected players balances.  This proved to us without a doubt how legit this company is, and a safe haven for your funds...

  3. Try www.thelocalcasino.com very good stuff

  4. Going hand after hand and getting poor cards is part of poker - sometimes it happens.  In fact it will happen much more than getting a plethora of good cards because there are so many more poor cards in the deck.  It happens on all online sites and in all live games from time to time.

I used to play on Absolute Poker and lost a big hand/pot to 'PotRipper,' one of the players involved in the scandal.  They refunded my $10.  I played in one $10 tourney, then re-swore to never play on the site again.  I didn't like the play or the site.

I recommend pokerstars, maybe fulltilt, but will personally stay away from Absolute & Ultimate Bet.  My experience has been much better on the first two sites (esp. pokerstars).  Better selection of games & limits, less asshats.

<EDIT>  And a note to BonusAces - Absolute Poker actually responded fairly poorly to the situation (if I remember) until someone from their tech support dept. 'accidentally' released the FULL hand history (the one that shows all of the cards that were on the table, even those cards that players did not show).  Only after examination of this data, it's release AND a lot of grief from the on-line poker world did Absolute Poker acknowledge that this was a problem.  They may be OK now - you can trust them if you want but I'd rather go to a site owned by a company that does not own Absolute Poker OR Ultimate bet (same company owns both, so I've read).

  5. This happens in real life about the same rate as online.  I've gone through hot streaks and cold streaks online and live at the same time or apart.  Two hours isn't that bad for a bad streak...two months is.

  6. I would also avoid absloute poker. They had a cheating scandal a while ago where an employee was playing and looking at opponents hole cards. But sometimes you gotta bluff man. make it happen for you.

  7. I would avoid Absolute Poker. There was a cheating scandal there a few months ago.

Getting a run of bad cards is normal though.

  8. yes, but on pokerstars. sometimes, I will fold 40-60 hands in a row. I've been close to being blinded out on non-turbo tournaments. I was thinking about filing a support case when one time I had a deuce in my hand 8 out of 13 hands. One memorable series of cards I had:

    95

    96

    j5

    95

    95

What I do now: when I'm having a bad run of cards, first I ask myself two questions:

    1. Are the cards not likely to get better?

    2. Am I almost dead in the tourney anyway?

If the answer to 1 is yes, I am forced to change my starting hand rankings. You know about Caro's tiers? When I am on a bad run, I have to promote tier 5-6 hands into 1-3 hands. This means playing Ax os and Jx suited like AQ. I also look for situations with tight players to my left and I am first to act.

If the answer to 2 is yes, I will go all in on any ace or any suited facecards. If I am almost dead, the situation I look for is a player in early position putting in a big (10X blinds or all in) raise. This protects me from the players behind me, so this is a relatively safe and easy way to guarantee a heads up situation. If you have bad cards (e.g. 45 suited) you are actually in pretty good shape vs an all in vs 2 over cards. You are highly unlikely to have dead cards (e.g. AK vs AJ or KJ). You will probably be dead against a high pair anyway, but this is a far better situation than being all in vs 2-6 players who are checking down just to get rid of you.

If the answers to both 1 and 2 are yes, then I made a mistake earlier in the tournament by not getting aggressive sooner.

If the answers to both 1 and 2 are "soon," then I start stealing from the button and using the Sandwich effect from the BB.
