in the function:

y=4-|x+2|

what is b, m, and c?

I'm having trouble defining the vertex, and of course that leads to problems later on...

Thank you in advance.

  1. here with absolute values the shape is a v shape on just s single line

    y=4-|x+2|

    = -|x+2|  +4

    now comparign it to y =|x| which is a v shape with vertex a 0,0

    your v is upside down because of the minus sign

    it has then been moved to the left2 spaces sideways ( because of the +2) and up 4 spaces

    so the vertex of this is at -2,4

    the m, slope is 1x, but as there are 2 parts to the v   one part is +1slope and the other is -1 slope.

    the y intercept b is found when x=0

    y=4-|0+2| = 4-2 = 2  b=2
