Absorption on light by black objects?

Since black objects absorb all the colours of light, why is it so that when I point a red laser on a black object I can see a red dot on the object?

  1. just because the object is not perfectly black, black things also may have some gloss.  the closest to perfect black that's practically available is soot as from smoking glass over a candle flame.  try it
