Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: A look at the second practice session
The second Friday practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix took place only a while ago at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi. Just like the first practice session in the morning, the Red Bull and McLaren drivers dominated the
track once again, but this time in a reverse order. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton led the caravan of cars while Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull followed him for second place.
Even though Hamilton holds fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship, yet his chances of getting to the top have almost faded away in all likelihood. Currently, he has 222 points and stands 24 points adrift the charts’ topper,
Fernando Alonso.
Today (Friday), at the second practice, he marked the fastest lap of the session in just 1:40.888s while Vettel was 0.257s off him and packed his day with the fastest lap in 1:41.145s.
The current charts’ topper, Alonso held the third place in the session being 0.169s slower then Vettel as he stamped his best lap time of 1:41.314s. The fourth title contender, Mark Webber of Red Bull, who currently holds 2nd place
in the charts’ tally, ended the session with his best time of 1:41.315s being only 0.001s away from Alonso.
A race that already seems very unpredictable has been further thrilled and exhilarated by such a tight battle among the top four drivers.
Moreover, some of the other fast drivers on the track were Robert Kubica who settled for 5th place in his Renault while his teammate Vitaly Petrov occupied the 7th place with his best time of 1:42.096s. Another
fast man was the second Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa who was sandwiched between the two Renault drivers at 6th
place.
The McLaren driver and reigning world Champion Jenson Button stood 8th. He is already out of the tug for the title as currently he stands at 5th place in the charts with just 199 points under his belt.
Force India’s driver, Vitantonio Liuzzi was also fast on the track and occupied 9th place whereas his teammate, Adrian Sutil who has done pretty well all through the season ended at 13th place.
The two Mercedes GP drivers settled together at 10th and 11th
places as the young German driver Nico Rosberg marked his fastest lap in 1:42.222s followed by his teammate and the seven times World Champion, Michael Schumacher whose best lap was in 1:42.246s.
Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi stood 14th at the second practice while his teammate Nick Heidfeld parked at 16th position. In between the two team drivers, the Toro Rosso duo was sandwiched as Jaime Alguersuari
finished 17th while Sebastien Buemi parked at 18th place.
The last six places of the day were occupied by the rookie teams Lotus, Virgin and HRT.
