Abu Dhabi Grand Prix organizers suggest Bahrain Grand Prix can be the final race of the 2011 Formula 1 season
The organizers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix recently stated that they wouldn’t mind if the FIA decides to hold the Bahrain Grand Prix as the final race of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Currently, Abu Dhabi is expected to be the final race of the season and according
to the FIA’s recent decision, it is believed that the Bahrain Grand Prix has been cancelled, as there is no chance of holding the race any other time throughout the year.
“We are organisers of the Abu Dhabi race and we respect the [FIA's] judgement. Finding time in the calendar is feasible. Originally, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain agreed to have a big separation on the calendar to make the most of the exposure that a grand prix
brings. However, this is an emergency and in an emergency we need to work together,” United Arab Emirates motorsport boss and FIA’s vice president of sports Mohammed ben Sulayem told the media.
The 2011 Formula 1 season was expected to hold 20 races and become the first ever Formula 1 season to hold that many races. However, since the Bahrain Grand Prix had to be cancelled, due to the political unrest and unsafe situation in the country, it seems
that the 2011 Formula 1 season would also host 19 races similar to the 2010 Formula 1 season.
“What is crucial is Bahrain get their priorities right, and I believe they have done so. Stability is the most important factor at this stage, but once it returns then we will push to bring the race back, because we know they would do the same for us,” stated
ben Suleyam.
The fans would definitely want to see the Bahrain Grand Prix take place this year and hopefully for them, the FIA might be able reschedule the event.
