Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship: Martin Kaymer leads second round
The second round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is underway at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Here is a quick glance at the current leaderboard.
Four-time winner of 2010, Martin Kaymer took the temporary lead by producing a score of five-under-par after sixteen holes. The 25-year-old teed off from the front and fired two consecutive birdies to get into the vibe. However, he failed to keep himself
synchronised for long and dropped a shot. After the first hole, he decided to play safe and left the rest of the front nine to the par.
However, he managed to break the fear and jumped out of the box after saving a par at the 11th hole. Kaymer wedged the first shot on the par-3 12th onto the green and putted for a birdie with the second shot. The success gave him a
little boost in the confidence, which resulted in three consecutive birdies on the following holes.
Next on the leaderboard is the overnight leader from the first round. Charl Schwartzel failed to deliver a performance like Friday and finished with a score of one-under-par.
US Open winner, Graeme McDowell produced five birdies against a loss of three bogeys and settled with a lame 70. The Irish had performed brilliantly in the first round when he surged to the third spot with a sparkly 66.
David Lynn and Niclas Fasth temporary occupied the fourth spot of the leaderboard after smashing 68 and 71 respectively.
One stroke below stood the Northern Irish star Rory McIlroy. The 22-year-old improved folds after the first round and jumped from a 71 to a 67 with the help of one eagle, six birdies, and three bogeys. The veteran is the only contender in the tournament
to smash an eagle in both the rounds.
Alexander Noren, who finished second in the first round, failed to replicate the score and wrapped up with one-over-par.
Former European Ryder Cup striker, Colin Montgomerie improved a point from the first round score and settled at three-under.
The worst score of the day by far was produced by the amateur who made an 85 on Friday. Khalid Yousuf stood vaulted to his favourite number, 85 and occupied the bottom-most spot of the leaderboard.
