Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship: Updates from third round
The third round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is underway at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club with Martin Kaymer in temporary lead.
The German stepped into the round as the overnight leader and teed off from the front. He picked two birdies in the nine-hole layup and settled at two-under-par. Later he walked to the back nine and helped two more birdies on the 11th, 15th, and
18th hole to compile a scorecard of six-under-par after eighteen holes.
Three strokes below him was the leader from the first round. Charl Schwartzel managed two birdies in the front nine for no loss of a hole, but could not stay in the position for long. The winner of Joburg Open encountered a bunker on the 13th
hole, when his tee shot rolled into a trap. The veteran wedged his way out, but could not save par.
The South African upset by the blow, played safe in the next three holes, but missed a par putt on the 17th and had to settle with one more. He has one more hole to play and even if he manages an eagle at the closing hole, he will not be able
to outshine Kaymer.
Next on the leaderboard was the Englishman David Lynn. The veteran started the third round from the back and helped three points without any loss. He managed two more birdies on the opening holes and has six more greens to go.
Four punters shared the fourth spot, which includes Graeme McDowell as well. The Irish once again failed to cope with the course and settled at one-under-par. He birdied three of his holes and bogeyed two.
Unlike Graeme, Rory McIlroy performed tremendously well once again. By far, he was the lowest scorer of the day. The Irish picked five birdies and one eagle to compose a scorecard of 7-under-par. The veteran is the only contender in the tournament to fire
an eagle in each round.
A little below on the leaderboard was the Korean teen prodigy, Noh Seung-Yul. The 19-year-old settled with five birdies against four bogeys and finished at one-under-par.
