Abu Dhabi all set for HSBC Golf Championship 2013
Abu Dhabi is all set to host the eighth HSBC Golf Championship from the 17th of January to the 20th of January, at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
The HSBC Golf Championship is the ultimate tournament of Abu Dhabi. It is mainly a European Tour event but big names from the PGA Tour also take part in it.
The Championship first started in 2006 and since then, it has become a global event with a television audience of more than 400 million.
The Championship regularly attracts big names from all over the world, even the legend Garry Player has played in one of the HSBC Championship.
In 2011, the event became the richest golfing tournament in the gulf when the tournament sponsors HSBC raised the prize money to US $2.7 million.
The Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority plans to take this tournament at a bigger scale than this one.
They also plan to improve the spectator facilities while continuing to make this tournament a huge success.
In 2012, the HSBC Championship recorded its highest attendance over the course of four days when more than 82000 fans scampered the National Course.
Abu Dhabi Golf Club is one of the world’s most state-of-the-art golfing facility, offering members and visitors a world class experience.
Every year, the HSBC Championship comes up with a bigger and better tournament. The 2013 tournament will certainly be an event to look out for.
Two of the finest golfers of the world have already confirmed their participation in the event. They are probably two of the most talked out players of the golfing world this season - Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
This will not only boost the strength of the field but the ongoing recent rivalry between the two will also attract more spectators and audience.
“Confirming Rory and Tiger, the world’s top two players and a duo with well-documented respect and admiration for each other’s talents, represents a significant coup and demonstrates how far the Championship has come in its relatively short history,” said
Faisal Al Sheikh, event manager.
“I’ve come close a few times in Abu Dhabi now,” McIlroy said. “This will be the first time I’ve headed to Abu Dhabi as world number one and I’m determined to keep the wins coming and cement my ranking”.
Tiger Woods will be determined to end Rory’s golden run at the HSBC Championship. The former world number one has so far had a wonderful experience at the HSBC Championship.
He hopes that the 2013 tournament will be more memorable than the previous one.
“I had heard so much about Abu Dhabi in the past and I was very impressed by the crowds, the organisation and the overall atmosphere,” said Tiger.
