  1. Ok, here's the thing, call a repair guy. How can anyone know what is wrong w/ your a/c w/o seeing it? We don't know if it's a window unit, or a central. We don't know if it's actually the compressor running, or the current still going to the fan, but not running it, caused by a bad bendix, or electromagnetic system set up in all electric motors. It could be you have the temp set too low for the airspace you are trying to cool, making the unit run constantly, burning up the fan motor, or the compressor continues to run, because it is low on freon, and cannot charge properly. We don't know, dude. Call the cooling guy. He is a jedi when it comes to this stuff. Good luck! By the way, don't believe any of the answers on here, they're all guesses.

  2. Are you sure the compressor is actually running ? I think the fan is on and the compressor is hung up. Replace the start capacitor.

  3. Well, if the humming is the compressor, then the house should continue to get cooler and cooler.  If the compressor continued to run, then that would be a bad contactor.  But, since the fan stops running, the compressor if probably not running either.  So the question is, what is the humming.  You need to get a volt meter and check to see what the voltages are in the unit.

  4. Your question is hard to follow.

If what you are saying is that your outdoor fan stops running and your compressor continues to run,you had better shut the power off to your entire condensing unit IMMEDIATELY or you will smoke the compressor and end up paying over 1000$ to have it replaced.

Right now it's just a bad outdoor fan motor.
