Question:

Acacia Seed Question (germination)?

Hi all. Just wondering...I read SOMEWHERE that if you soak acacia seeds in boiling water, and then leave them there for 12 hours, it quickens the rate of their germination. I was wondering if anyone knows exactly how much faster it is. As in, do the seeds sprout 24 hours after the boiling? 48? One week? Two weeks?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Apparently there are chemical inhibitors in the seed coat of Acacia.  Soaking in warm water, not boiling, for at least four hours is recommended in one document.  The soaking in warm water may simulate the passage of the seeds through the digestive tract of an animal!
