Question:

Academic Disqualification Problem! Help?

by  |  earlier

I'm a student at San Diego City College and I've just been put on Academic Disqualification. Last semester I passed my Art class with a D, and now this morning I had checked my financial aid and I still have it. When I had gone to the Counseling Office the guy told me only to attend the workshop this Wednesday and everything would be cleared. But in the email I got from school they told me that I'd have to sit out for a year and come back and re-register again next Fall.

I have no idea how to tell my father-figure about this huge problem, not sure what he'll do or say to me, but I know I'll recieve a huge punishment from him.

Anyway, I'm just not sure what I'll do if I really am kicked out for a whole year.

Any advice would help. Thanks.

  1. A punishment?  Hello?  Adult college student!  Who cares what someone else thinks that isn't even your father.  Call your school and find out what the problem is and move on.

  2. WOW, are you sure that you are being disqualified from receiving an D in art? a D is passing in college but in order to get your degree you have to have C's and above. That sounds a bit weird to be to have your problem...ask what you did wrong on your upcoming meeting. sounds like you have alot of confusing coming from alot of areas telling you this and that and its freaking you out.

wait for your meeting, then if its true your banned for a year maybe you could take classes at a different college near you that would transfer your course back to San Diego College, that way you wouldnt be missing out a year maybe your dad would go for that idea since this happened, other than that look for a job to kill time plus save money to return back to school. im sorry to hear that. good luck in the future!

oh here is a source from your school that might clear up things for you intead of waiting around to know whats going to happen.

  3. Were you on Probation last semester?  Chances are if you were on Academic Probation and your GPA was below a 2.0, you may have been dismissed.  However, if you checked with your counselor and they told you that you would be cleared to resume your studies if you attended a workshop, then they must be reconsidering your dismissal.

Sometimes, Financial Aid is affected by your academic status.  If you are on Academic Probation, they can with hold your aid.

As for telling your father-figure about your academic progress, just be honest.  I'm guessing that he also supports you financially.  If he does, has a right to know what your progress is.

If you truly have been dismissed, take this time to re-evaluate your priorities.  What are your educational aspirations?  Are you willing to re-commit yourself to your studies?  Talk to your academic adviser to see what your options are and what they would recommend you do to be readmitted after you sit out your dismissal period.  Also, when you're readmitted, make sure you go to see your professors if you need extra help in class.  Don't let yourself get into academic difficulty again.

    Best wishes to you.
