Accelaerating and street race question?

my car is three years older than my friends and he keeps bragging about how his car is faster. if we were to race what could i do to accelerate from the stopped position to get a good jump on him because i know if i can stay with him in the beginning i will beat him. should i hold the brake and gas a little so as soon as we go i just let go of the brake and my car is already revving so it will jump up to higher speeds quicker

I'd get Nox, what kind of cars are you racing chevettes. You can also cut down some weight and time if you swap out the OE hubcaps to some racing spinning hubcaps from auto zone.

Assuming that your car is an automatic.

Then pull the shifter into first gear and hold the break and press the gas enough so you feel the car want to go but still remain stopped and hold the break at the same time to get the RPM's up. Then when you get the green light press the gas to the floor and let the break off  and you will get a good jump off the line. Then manually shift the car into 2nd and 3rd and so on.

If you are is manual then just start like normal and give a heck of a lot more gas and let the clutch out faster to get the jump.

That is a good way.  Practice.  But also know that is a good way to destroy your toque converter.  Nothing comes for free.
