Question:

Accent 2002 GLS, Gear shift problem

I bought an Accent GLS 2002 in the month of Feb this year from a Pre owned car delaer. The gear transition was happening smoothly whereas today it was getting stuck from Neutral to 1st, similary from 1st to 2nd & >2nd was normal. I had to move the gears with great difficulty and found working normal after some time on the move. Can anyone please explain me as to what could be the possible reason for the gear to get stuck? also let me know if the gear box needs a replacement/servicing/oil change. If possible, the cost of the new gear box.

  1. Are you saying that the gear changed improves as the engine and gearbox warmed up?

If so it may be that the gearbox oil has been changed and the wrong oil type has been added.

You could try find what the correct oil is and just change it.

If your getting gratting and grinding when selecting reverse is likely a clutch problem.

  2. Sounds like the gear stick to gear box linkages have become worn. You can either replace the whole linkage or just the bushes.

    Ja.

  3. Either shifter cable has a problem or you need something replaced.

Makes me also think the shift fork for 1st and 2nd might be bad or the fluid is too thick.
