Accent for a farm hand

I am playing Hickory from the wizard of oz, i feel it is important to my character, so people won't see me as "one of those 3 farm guys". I tried southern, but that sooooo didn't work. So if someone could tell me what kind of accent I could use I would be forever grateful!!!!

  1. I've done Wizard of Oz before, and the Hickory in our cast used a toned-down version of a southern accent. It wasn't like "howdy ya'll!" but you could still tell he was on a farm. If you want to be really accurate, try looking up how to do a midwestern accent, since this takes place in Kansas.

  2. the show takes place in Kansas where they speak General American dialect, like most of the country does. Farm hands don't necessarily have a dialect different from most people. Personality of the character is more important.
