Question:

Access computer over network?

I have a Vista Laptop that I am the administer of, I also own a desktop computer with Windows XP on it... Is there a way to access files and other settings on my desktop computer form my Laptop through my wireless network?

any help would be great!

  1. Right click the My Compute icon and choose Properties.  Check the Remote tab and then check the box that says "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer".

    Right click on the folder you want to share.  Choose Sharing and Security. Under the Sharing tab, you choose the Network Sharing.  Give the folder a share name.

    On the Vista computer search for the XP system and on opening the system you should see the shared folder.  You should have rights to the folder.  You can map the drive.  I am not so sure about how you do that on a Vista system.


  2. Use LanHelper to perform network scan and to see whether it have found any shared folders.
