  1. access to higher education courses are excellent because they are specifically aimed at students who want to go to university, but cannot because they lack the formal qualifications such as GCSEs.

as for the likelihood of getting accepted, it is very high especially with regards to mature students. universities realise that not every student excelled at school and neither have they experienced doing a-levels but that those who are hardworking, adept, motivated and willing to succeed and have done a vocational course at access level will be accepted. providing they pass that is.

i did an access course a few years ago and afterwards, when i had passed i went onto higher study and did my degree. personally speaking i loved the access course, which i did in media and communications because you get the right blend of practical and theoretical work, alongside study skills such as essay writing, note taking, referencing, dissertation writing, as well as key skills in communication, I.T, as well as numeracy. it also helps when you get support and help with your studies in the form of a personal tutor, who will assist you and detect whether you are suffering from dyslexia for eg, so that they can inform you as to who to turn to for help.

believe me, it is a great way to build confidence in your academic abilities so that when you progress onto university, where the lecturers are supportive and helpful, you can then take the next step and build on what you have accomplished on the access course. plus by then you'd know how to structure an essay and utlise what you have learnt and know how to prepare yourself for university.

i wish you the best of luck with your studies

  2. It is the equivalent to a levels for mature students and is recognised by every college and university. The diploma is based on a point system which translates to the a level equivalent. Its a better option as it only takes a year instead of two. Go for it, four of my family members have done it and gone onto uni

the only down side is if you dont get any free concessions it cost between £500 and £700 but you may be eligable so check.
