Question:

Accessory Fuse Box - is this safe?

My car stereo (installed by an ex, i think he did a pretty dodgy job) stopped working this morning and I looked in the accessory fuse box to see if that was the problem. A wire fell out of the fuse box when I opened it, clearly the source of my stereo problem and hit another piece of metal, causing a big spark. I didn't even want to try putting the wire back where it should have been so I taped it to the fuse box, away from all metal.

My question is - is this safe? I'm taking the car in tomorrow to be looked at but am I ok to drive it until then?

Please only answer if you're relatively well-informed about cars.

Thanks in advance :)

  1. Taping it up should be safe enough until you get it in to be looked at.  If you have electrical tape or a wire nut to put over the exposed wire it would be better.

  2. As long as there are absolutely no bare metal wire parts of the wire showing then you are completely safe. You may want to wrap the entire end of the wire and a small way back from the end just be to 100% sure.

    hope this helps.
