Accident unregistered car?

I live in NJ USA, I was hit by a truck while at a signal, but my cars registration was expired. The cop who took the report told me that i will have to bare all the expenses for the repair, as i was driving on an expired registration. Any thoughts? Please advise.

i have never heard of this. the trucks insurance should pay for all of your damages.  it does not matter that your registration is expired. you may have to prove you are the owner, but that is the extent of it.
