As I was filling up tonight and was sure I pressed the premium button, I noticed that the pump chose regular. Any long term effects on my 07 Civic Si? Has it happened to you?

  1. hi i have a 2000 euro R accord and the manual says 98ron or higher and as 98 is the highes ya can get in new zealand i run that and some towns dont stock 98 so ive had 2 run 95 and i notice a huge difference in performane acceleration becomes very sluggish and fuel economy goes out the window

  2. If it was a one time thing there will be no damage to the engine and its functions. But continual filling up low quality fuels could have long standing engine problems (could cost alot) so the occasional accident will not affect long term. And yes I own an Infiniti Qx56 and a G35 which both have been accidently filled with low quality fuel.

  3. WHY on earth are you putting in 91 in that car is it a 10 to 1 compression engine? I dunno but I thought Honda's were the more mainstream compression ratio over all.  But hey if it has a variable cam in it maybe you need it.  But if the book says 87 ---87 is what will work best and putting in higher octane won't do much if anything for performance.  However as the story's go the 91 octane is supposed to have less "grit" and keep your valves clean.  And it actually seems to be true. When I take apart an engine sometimes its so clean I can't believe it I ask if they put in 91 and they usually say yes. BUT i wonder why the engine failed?

    Around 8 to 1 its 87

As you get in the mid to high 9's to1 its 87

As you approach the 10 to 1 its 92.

  4. There shouldn't be any long term effects, buy some octane booster and add to to the full tank. It may miss and ping some until you do. Just one time shouldn't hurt. I've done the same thing with my Mustang.

  5. I had the same problem last year. While filling up my husband's Audi, I pressed the 89 instead of 91. I honestly thought the car will not run.

    PS

I am pretty sure your car will survive. lol. Just double check next time.

  6. Look at  your owners manual. If if recommends fuel in range from 87 octane to 91 octane, you are worrying about nothing. If the manual indicates that 87 is acceptable, then you have been wasting lots of money on fuel because if is designed to run on 87 octane, you are gaining nothing but a larger gas bill each month.

  7. It won't ruin your engine but it will make it run a little more sluggish.   Next time just put in the premium.

  8. it wont harm your car even if you use it all the time my uncle drives a 2006 mercedes e 55 amg and he used 87 for the past 2 years with no problem what so ever in the car the only difference between the 3 gases is the octane level they have theyr all the same purity

  9. you car is just gonna idle with the jitters at a stoplight  and have hesitating accelerations for a while until you start filling it with premium again.

  10. Like everyone else has said..

If its the first time do not worry.

The minimum fuel for any car is regular... what premium does is make a car that requires it like yours perform at its best.

No long term effects. Just don't do it again lol.

  11. it wont hurt a dang thang

  12. it will not hurt it a bit as u dont really need premium, the highest u need is midrange

  13. buy the way civic si has a 11.5:1 compression ratio
