Accidently put in straight gas instead of fuel mixture. What to do?

My housemate took my 1978 Columbia moped (47cc 2-stroke) out for a ride last night, and thoughtfully decided to gas her up before returning it...but put in straight unleaded instead of the fuel mixture. He rode it a good bit after this. What did he do to my engine? And what should I do now?

  1. Add some oil to what's left in the fuel tank, and make the mix a bit "oil rich", now and for the next couple of fuelings.  If it's still running okay then, you've dodged the bullet.  Good luck.

  2. figure how much gas is in the tank{unmixed he added} then add the proper amount of oil. It is better to add to much oil instead of not enough{cheaper to replace a fouled plug then replace an engine}.

  3. if driven without the proper oil mix you will cook the top of the piston.not good.mix it with a little more oil for the next two tanks and keep your fingers crossed.the oil pump on my snowmobile quit last year and my pistons dissinegrated in the cylinders.

  4. the oil is to lubricate everything in the engine if u ride it it could blow up or just lock up

just drain the gas and replace it with pre-mixed

u might want to take it apart and make sure it is not damaged (piston, cylinder, etc.)

  5. He probably didn't hurt anything since there was still some gas/oil mix in the tank, and he just diluted it. If it still runs fine and doesn't rattle, don't worry.

  6. Try (like was said) to adjust the gas in the tank. If he drove it home and it still started it is most likely fine. ALWAYS add a little extra oil because it is better than not enough in a 2 cycle. That is the only lubrication the engine gets.
