Acclamation all set to defend his crown in the Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar
An immense amount of speculation is revolving, Acclamation, and if he will be able to collect his seventh consecutive win at Del Mar on 21st July, 2012, in the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes that covers 1 1/8 miles. The runner seems
to be in great form and there is no reason why he shouldn’t deliver his best performance.
The son of Unusual Heat has not been a consistent winner from the beginning of his career, after a bad losing streak, he got it together, maintained his composure and started securing big victories. The change in luck was strategic as trainer Donald
Warren commented:
"One day we got the idea we should take the stick away.”
Warren further said: “When we ran him in the Jim Murray for the first time, we told the rider to send him from the start and open a big lead.”
Without the whip, the runner proved to be unbeatable, he landed the Grade 2 Jim Murray Handicap in a grand fashion by an immense margin of 7 ¼ lengths over the Simon Callaghan trained, Falcon Rock, and completed the 1 ½ mile course in 2 minutes and
26.59 seconds.
The Mary Hilvers, Peter Hilvers, E. W. Johnston and Judy Johnston owned runner will compete in the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes, where he will fight to defend his crown.

Since most of his victories have taken place on turf, he might have a bit of an issue on the poly-track but, it’s nothing that he hasn’t already done before.
The six-year-old scored a brilliant victory in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar on 28th August, 2011, which proved that he has the ability to adapt to different surfaces.

He bolted through the 1 ¼ mile track and defeated the John Sadler trained, Twirling Candy.
Due to the fact that he is versatile and can handle variety of different surfaces, he was presented with the Eclipse Award for his commendable performances.
The trainer believes that the runner is ready to compete in the Eddie Read Stakes and, seems in pretty good shape. To confirm this, he stated:
“In April, he would come back and act like he had a sore foot. We did some corrective shoeing after scratching out of the Inglewood, and ever since he's done wonderfully and we haven’t had to worry about him at all. His issues seem to be behind him."
