Acclamation looks to skip dirt for grass in the Breeders’ Cup fixtures
Acclamation’s brilliant season continues as he refuses to go down and since 14 May, 2011 he has piled on the wins and he is no mood to endure any hindrance which could jeopardize his flawless run of 4 of 4, the latest addition to the trophy case the Grade
1 $1million Pacific Classic at Del Mar.
Notably, the 5-year-old Donald Warren trained horse before the Pacific Classic win has been running rampant on grass, and has been beyond awesome after winning his last 3 starts at grass.
However, by virtue of his victory in the Del Mar Classic on 28 August, Acclamation has gone on to earn an automatic berth in the heavily pursed $5million Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The race will be held at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011, but the biggest downside to a tempting race is that it is run on dirt, and Acclamation is right now allergic to dirt.
With bleak chance to go for the race, Acclamation has had good outings on turf both in 2010 and 11, and they wanted to switch Acclamation to Poly Track to run in the Pacific Classic, because prior to the race on Poly track Acclamation turned in a bullet
which inspired owners and trainer.
Acclamation, 5, did not make his connections feel stupid as he powered home to win big yet again, 4 times in a row to be exact.
His chances to run on dirt in the Breeders’ Cup Classic are remote and his connections don’t get too excited about dirt either, and on top of it Acclamation hasn’t been nominated yet in the Breeders’ Cup program.
Judy Johnston who co-owns Acclamation said regarding the issue that it would be perfect if the horse could participate in the Breeders’ Cup grass races, referring to the another heavily pursed $3million Breeders’ Cup Turf fixture, rather than running the
colt on dirt at Churchill Downs.
Owners and trainer are circumspect because they don’t know what to expect from the Churchill Downs dirt track and how Acclamation would handle it, obviously they have to weigh the factors before they come to a decision.
