Acclamation to miss the Breeders’ Cup due to injury
Donald Warren trained 6-year-old horse, Acclamation, continued his prolific form from last season, this season, and successfully defended his titles in the Grade 1 Charles Whittingham Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park, and at Del Mar ran a double in the
Eddie Read Stakes.
However, the main goal was the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, but the 2011 Eclipse Award winner as outstanding older male, Acclamation will miss yet another Breeders’ Cup event due to injury.
Warren confirmed the speculation, when he said on the morning of October 7 that the son of Unusual Heat is going to give up on the Breeders’ Cup due to a sprain in the horse’s left leg.
"It flared up a little bit again," Warren said. "It heated up on me, the sprain that he had a month ago. He worked good on the training track four or five days ago, but it heated up the next day, so we're going to give up on the Breeders' Cup."
Owned by Mary and Peter Hilvers in partnership with Bud Johnston and Judy Johnston, Acclamation was working toward a run in the Grade 1, $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf in November, and he was last found working on 30 September, where he turned in 6 furlongs
in 1 minute and 17 3/5 seconds.
Acclamation, last season held together a brilliant 5-race win streak, with three Grade 1 victories and two Grade 2 victories.
He started from landing the Grade 2 Jim Murray Handicap, and Grade 1 Charles Whittingham Handicap at Hollywood Park, went to Del Mar to down the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes, and the Grade 1 Pacific Classic, and finally capped off a brilliant season with a
win in the Grade 2 Clement Hirsch L. Turf Championship.
On the other hand, trained Mike Machowsky said that, Caracortado ‘s chances of running in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint look bleak, after the runner burned on the frog of his right foot.
"I don't know if he'll make the race," trainer Mike Machowsky said by phone from Hollywood Park. "I haven't ruled it out yet. It's still up in the air. I'd say it's 50-50; we'll keep our fingers crossed."
